At Ernst & Young, I consulted with manufacturing clients as part of an EY/ Procter & Gamble alliance that licensed and trained P&G’s manufacturing know-how externally to clients, driving substantial improvement to manufacturing plants around the globe.  I also led a team in codifying EY’s approach into a software system for clients to have virtual consulting support.

Data Driven Manufacturing, Kansas City, MO: President (2012-2015)

At Data Driven Manufacturing I delivered breakthrough improvements to manufacturing sites through a variety of tools and approaches.  With expertise in equipment installation and start-ups, data collection and analysis, control system programming and infrastructure, and world-class manufacturing system management, I tackled a variety of problems at several client companies.

  • Assisted large US food manufacturer in installation of several new production lines
  • Assisted global consumer products company in installation and start-up of numerous automation and electrical controls projects over two-year time span
  • Assisted Fortune 500 food manufacturing company in upgrades and improvements to automated line event data collection and reporting systems using GE Proficy Plant Applications

JM Smucker Co, Kansas City, MO:  Senior Technical Manager (2009-2012)

Managed multi-functional efforts to implement numerous new project installations and technology upgrades, utilizing latest technology.

  • Set direction for efforts of plant Power, Control, &Information System techs.
  • Led implementation of GE Proficiency Plant Applications for reliability and quality tracking and reporting throughout the plant.
  • Implemented technical training and qualification systems for promotion of seven PC&IS technicians.

Procter & Gamble, Folger Coffee Plant, Kansas City, MO (until 2008)

Plant New Initiative Contact and Start-up Leader (2007-2008)
Led start-up of production systems to produce national distribution of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee, delivering eight weeks ahead of schedule, while producing three times original volume forecast.  Led planning efforts between the plant and corporate Sales, Marketing, and Product Development for new product initiatives- resolving staffing, equipment, and logistical issues for all new products produced at site.

Plant Integrated Work System (IWS) Manager (2005-2006)
Led and coordinated IWS cultural change efforts, coaching and developing pillar leaders, teams, and problem-solving efforts.  In response to Hurricane Katrina, led a two-week design, construction, conversion, and start-up of a Millstone Coffee line.  Implemented plant-wide, computer-based technical training program for maintenance knowledge.

Plant Engineer
Managed plant annual capital budget of up to $11 million.  Led operational re-training efforts (50% of plant) for plant downsizing.  Developed feasibility designs, estimates and competitive bids for numerous potential products and projects for the plant, representing the plant in sourcing studies.  Led plant engineering efforts for new Home Café Pod making systems and packing lines.  Led controls upgrade effort of Making operation, resulting in project cost 80% under original outside estimate.  Led implementation of plant-wide automated line event data systems.  Consultant to other plants to help resolve reliability losses.

Filter Pack Operation Start-up and Improvement Manager
Led training, construction, and start-up of highest technology line in P&G coffee.  During start-up operation, developed highest-skilled work force in facility.  Over a two-year period, led improvements to increase reliability from under 60% to over 90%, highest in coffee category- doubling volume output, while cutting staffing in half.  Developed and leveraged expertise in Reliability Engineering, Control Loop Health, Web Control, PLC Programming, and Operator Interfaces to drive technical improvements.

Commercial Products Packing Operating Department Manager
Managed 80 technicians, 12 lead technicians, and 4 managers on a 3 shift operation.  Prepared and managed $10 million annual budget.  Led implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), increasing reliability 5%.

Commercial Products Reliability Manager
Managed five maintenance technicians directly and trained and developed ten next generation maintenance technicians.  Led de-bottlenecking projects on several Packing and Making operations, increasing reliability 15%.  Led design and installation of several new lines, increasing throughput, while automating manual tasks.  Introduced TPM to plant, training a department of 80.

Coffee Brickbag Team Manager
Managed 30 technicians over 3 shift operation.  Led work design and developed teams of mostly new-hire union operators into high performing work system operation that became only organization on site to run without direct management.
